Cities: You Don’t Have To Be NYC, SF Or DC To Be On The Cutting Edge Of Tech

Hello mid-sized cities out there. Have you seen what Baltimore is doing lately with civic tech?

Formerly best-known for being the place where The Wire was filmed, it suddenly seems to be outpacing a lot other, bigger, more fashionable cities as a hotbed of civic tech reinvetion.

Last week they launched the Open Baltimore Data Portal, next weekend they’re hosting a Civic Hack Day, and they’re talking about other experiments in rethinking city government.

Not bad.

Looking to see how it all develops. If they keep their game up, we may see a new hotbed of civic tech taking root.

And I think this says to all of the other cities out there: Game On! What have you got to show?

Well?

Thanks for posting the info on Baltimore’s open-data initiatives. As a dweller in a mid-size city, this is very very good to see!! Do you have any info on who lead the development on the Open Baltimore Data Portal?

    See you at TranspoCampEast!

John – no, no idea. I bet you could get that info by posting a question to the Sunlight mailing list.

Looking forward to the camp – see you there!
